Dottorato di Ricerca

Università del Salento

In the framework of the cooperation between CNR Institute of Nanotechnology (CNR NANOTEC) and University of Salento we are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and outstanding candidates for PhD research position in the areas of light matter interaction and quantum optics.
The successful candidates will work in the Advanced Photonics Group (http://polaritonics.nanotec.cnr.it) on joint projects born from the collaboration between University, CNR and different international research group in Physics and Engineering. In particular, the candidates will focus their PhD thesis on research field of Quantum Neuromorphic Computing and Quantum Fluid of Light.
Our group is at the forefront in the study of light matter interactions in semiconductor and hybrid systems, with several international collaborations (TUM in Munich, Princeton University, LKB in Paris, University College in London , Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, to name a few), and succeeded in the observation of exotic physical phenomena and the engineering of possible advanced applications, such as Bose-Einsten condensation (Nat. Mater. 17, 145 (2018)), superfluidity (Nature Photonics 13, pages 488–493(2019); Nat. Phys. 13, 837 (2017)), quantum polariton (Science advances 4 (4), eaao6814(2018)), interacting photons for neuromorphic computing (Nano Letters 20 (5), 3506-3512 (2020)). Potential interested students can check the group's website for a full list of publications (http://polaritonics.nanotec.cnr.it).

CNR Institute of Nanotechnology (CNR NANOTEC), a research centers based in Lecce, Rome, Bari and Cosenza is a multidisciplinary research centre featuring more than 12000 sqm of newly built labs and clean rooms and more than 200 researchers coming from physics, chemistry, biology, medicine and engineering areas, including several recipients of awards from the European Research Council. NR-NANOTEC mission is to attract and involve talented researchers through an open-access management of the facilities in order to promote the development of external projects as well as partnerships with the international leading research centres.
At CNR_NANOTEC, innovation is promoted through technology-transfer processes, the creation of joint-labs with international companies and in collaborations with venture capital funds is fostered, and the foundation of start-ups and spin-offs is stimulated.
In this context, CNR NANOTEC in collaboration with University of Salento is launching a new, long-term research programme on light matter interaction and quantum optic. The final purpose of this research is the development of a new generation of inorganic and hybrid systems for Quantum Neuromorphic Computing as well as the study of new and interesting phenomena of Quantum Light of Fluids.
